8 Hurt In CTA Bus Crash In Chatham
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Eight people were injured, one seriously, after a head-on collision between a car and a CTA bus in the Chatham neighborhood.
The Fire Department sent five ambulances to the scene at 8112 S. Cottage Grove Av. around 8:45 a.m.
A man driving a Nissan Altima slammed into the back of a Cadillac, and struck another car, before crossing the center line, and slamming into a CTA bus head-on.
"He came out of nowhere and hit me, swerved, and hit the bus; head-on collision," said Antoine Keys. "It was hard. He hit it head-on like a bullet coming out of a gun."
Keys estimated the man was going 55 mph at the time of the crash.
One person was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious to critical condition, according to the Fire Department. Two adults were taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, one was taken to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, two were taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, and one was taken to South Shore Hospital; all in fair to serious condition.
Witnesses said some other people drove themselves to hospitals to get checked out.
