Chicago police issue alert about string of armed robberies on Northwest Side

CHICAGO (CBS) – Chicago police are warning residents following a string of armed robberies on the city's Northwest Side on Sunday.

At least eight robberies happened during the afternoon and evening hours in the Wicker Park, Avondale, Logan Square, and Belmont Cragin neighborhoods.

Police say in each incident, three men wearing dark clothing and face masks would approach victims walking on the sidewalk. They would then threaten them with handguns and demand their property before fleeing in a red four-door sedan.  

Incident times and locations:

  • 1300 block of North Wood Street at 3:37 p.m.
  • 2800 block of North Richmond Street at 4 p.m.
  • 3200 block of North Linder Avenue at 4:21 p.m.
  • 4400 block of West North Street at 4 p.m.
  • 1600 block of North Honore Avenue at 5:44 p.m.
  • 3000 block of West Schubert Street at 5:55 p.m.
  • 3200 block of West George Street at 5:56 p.m.
  • 1500 block of North Bell Avenue at 8:30 p.m.

CPD is encouraging people to pay attention to any suspicious people or vehicles loitering in the area and to call 911 immediately with any details of the offenders - including vehicle and license plate number.
