CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least seven people were injured in a four-car crash early Thursday in the West Town neighborhood on the North Side.

About 1:30 a.m., a 29-year-old man was driving eastbound in the 1500 block of West Chicago Avenue "at a high rate of speed" when it rearended another car and caused a domino-effect crash, damaging two more cars, police said.

It appeared three sedans and an SUV were damaged.

Seven people were transported to area hospitals, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said.

Four people were in serious-to-critical condition, one person was listed as "stable" and two others were in good condition, Roccasalva said.

The driver of the speeding car was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he is in police custody, police said. His condition was not immediately known Thursday morning.
