Boy, 3, Witnesses Fatal Shooting Of His Great-Uncle

(CBS) – A gun man opens fire, killing a 61-year-old man on his porch while the victim's great-nephew was playing nearby.

The scene unfolded in broad daylight Monday afternoon at 92nd and Cottage Grove.

Police say a vehicle pulled up and someone from inside started shooting, hitting Michael Carl Lucas in the neck. The man's 3-year-old great-nephew witnessed the shooting.

Lucas was not the intended target, authorities say. He was described as a jack-of-all-trades and musician.

"He played every instrument," son Carl MacArthur tells CBS 2.

Family members are pleading with the public for information. No arrests have been made.

The killing occurred as Tamar Manasseh and her group Mothers Against Senseless Killings were trying to take their anti-violence message to the street.

"It's building community, and anytime you build community violence goes away. That's how it goes," she tells CBS 2's Jim Williams.
