5,000 Attend Fight For Peace Fest In North Lawndale
CHICAGO (CBS) -- About 5,000 residents from several Chicago neighborhoods spent the day Sunday promoting peace as children head back to school.
Local activists and church leaders from 10 west side churches came together for North Lawndale's Fight For Peace community festival.
1,500 bags of school supplies and free books were given away to students.
The churches also gave away free clothes and offered activities and resources in an effort to keep kids off the streets.
