Five wounded in mass shooting at Wheeling home

5 people wounded in Wheeling shooting

WHEELING, Ill. (CBS) – Five people are wounded following a shooting in north suburban Wheeling Saturday morning.

All five people, with ages ranging from 28 to 30, were hospitalized after someone fired shots into a house in the 800 block of Fletcher around 5 a.m., according to the Wheeling Police Department.

Police said the group started the night at a restaurant in Prospect Heights not far from where the shooting took place. They then got into some sort of argument there, and one group left for the house in Wheeling.

The owner of the bar insists no fight, argument or altercation of any kind happened before the group left the bar and that it had nothing to do with the business. CBS 2 is not stating the name of the business as police confirm the shooting onlyt happened in front of the house in Wheeling.

"I saw the firetruck and ambulance run up and knew something had happened," said a neighbor whose bedroom sits right next to where the shooting happened.

He said he is too concerned to share his name until police make arrests.

"I've been here 30 years, and it probably won't happen again for the next 30 years," he said.

Later, someone fired shots into the house, hitting the five victims.

Friends of the victims told CBS 2's Sabrina Franza that all of the victims are expected to recover. Four of them were even released from thehospital Saturday.

The victims have been cooperative and the address where the shooting occurred had not been one of previous concern, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
