5 Hurt When SUV Hits Horse-Drawn Carriage

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Five people, including four children, were injured late Monday night when an SUV struck a horse-drawn carriage in the Fulton River District neighborhood.

Police said an SUV collided with a carriage operated by Chicago Horse & Carriage around 11:30 p.m., near the intersection of Grand Avenue and Desplaines Street.

Four children from the SUV – a 10-year-old boy, a 6-year-old girl, a 4-year-old boy, and a 1-year-old boy – were taken to Lurie Children's Hospital. They were treated and released.

Three other people who were in the SUV declined medical treatment at the scene.

The 25-year-old woman who was driving the carriage was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She was treated and released. The horses were not injured, police said.

The owners of Chicago Horse & Carriage could not be reached for comment early Tuesday.

Police said no traffic citations or criminal charges were issued.
