1 killed, 3 wounded in shooting outside River North nightclub
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A fight outside a River North night club ended in gunfire early Sunday morning. Four people were shot, and one of them died, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The shooting happened around 2:10 a.m. in the 300 block of West Chicago Avenue outside a club called Hush.
River North residents say they have had it with the spike in crime and the fear that comes with it.
"Not again, you know? Nobody wants that in your neighborhood," said Linda Markran.
She has lived in River North for 10 years, and she is sick of the crime scene tape and fear.
"It makes everyone uncomfortable," she said. "Nobody wants it that way."
Sunday morning a group of people were thrown out of Hush nightclub. That's when a fight broke out, and two unknown men started shooting.
Four people were struck. A 30-year-old man was shot in the chest.
When officers arrived on scene, they immediately performed CPR. The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"It's sad, but I'm not super surprised given the world right now," said resident Samantha Marvy.
Three others were injured. A 24-year-old man was shot in the leg, a 30-year-old man was shot in the shoulder, and a 24-year-old woman was hit in the leg. They were all taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.
"It's really bizarre to be so close to it, but to see none of it," said Mathew Tamulewicz, a student who recently moved to River North.
Two weapons were recovered, and a suspect was taken into custody by responding officers.
Police say they are looking for a possible second shooter.
Area Three Detectives are investigating.
River North is no stranger to violence. In September, a man was shot in the face in a drive-by shooting near LaSalle and Illinois. A deadly mass shooting rocked the are near Chicago and State, where two people died and seven others were hurt. In April, the Cook County Sheriff's Office opened a new command post at a building near Clark and Illinois.
"We certainly need to get back to a status quo -- it's ok and we don't have this happen on a daily basis," said Markran. "I think a lot of responsibility goes into, let's look after each other."
CBS 2 reached out to Ald. Brendan Reilly and the Cook County Sheriff's Office but had not heard back Sunday evening.
