4 Killed, 33 Wounded In Weekend Shootings Across Chicago
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Four men were killed and at least 33 other people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening.
In the most recent fatal shooting, a man was killed and a teenage boy was critically wounded in a Sunday night shooting in the Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
They were playing dice in the 1800 block of South Springfield about 9:45 p.m. when two males approached and fired shots, police said.
The 19-year-old man was shot multiple times and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The 16-year-old boy was shot in the head and taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the fatality, but did not release additional details Monday morning.
Earlier Sunday, a 21-year-old man was shot to death in the South Side West Englewood neighborhood.
The shooting happened at 1:08 p.m. in the 5700 block of South Paulina, police said.
The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 1:52 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office. His name was withheld pending family notification.
Further details on the attack were not available Monday morning.
A 27-year-old man was shot and killed early Saturday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
He was driving about 2 a.m. near the intersection of Carroll and Central Park avenues when he was shot multiple times in the chest, back and arm, police said. His vehicle then crashed into a pole.
The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name also was withheld pending family notification.
The weekend's first shooting also turned fatal in a West Garfield Park drive-by attack about 6:40 p.m. Friday.
Alex Malone, 19, was outside in the 4100 block of West Wilcox when someone fired shots from a passing minivan, authorities said.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:17 p.m. Saturday, the medical examiner's office said. Malone was from the 1600 block of South Spaulding.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about 1:20 a.m. Monday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.
A 24-year-old man was standing outside in the 5400 block of South Justine when he heard gunfire and realized he'd shot in the hip and leg, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
Less than 30 minutes earlier, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.
The boy was walking in the 6500 block of South King Drive at 1:03 a.m. when someone fired shots in his direction, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
At least 30 other people have been wounded in other shootings across the city since about 10:45 p.m. Friday.
Additionally, a Chicago Police officer shot and seriously wounded a man during a Chatham neighborhood traffic stop about 7:45 p.m. Saturday. Another man with a gun was arrested at the scene, police said.
