4 Adults Injured In Crash Involving School Bus, 2 Other Vehicles At 79th Street, Stony Island And South Chicago Avenues

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A school bus and at least two other vehicles were involved in an accident Thursday evening at the busy intersection of Stony Island Avenue, 79th Street, and South Chicago Avenue.

Police said 34-year-old man was driving a taxi south on Stony Island Avenue, while a 53-year-old man driving a pickup truck northwest on South Chicago Avenue ran a red light and hit the taxi.

The pickup then hit the school bus, which was being driven by a 55-year-old man and was at the intersection, police said.

The pickup truck driver was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition, police said. The taxi driver declined medical attention, but the woman in the cab was also taken to the U of C Medical Center, where her condition as stabilized.

The school bus driver was taken to Jackson Park Hospital for waistline pain and his condition was stabilized. A 68-year-old woman on the school bus was taken to Jackson Park Hospital with left shoulder pain and she was also in good condition.

No citations were given to the pickup truck driver, police said.

Stony Island Avenue was closed in both directions after the crash, but has since reopened.
