3 men dead, another injured in hit-and-run in South Shore

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police are searching for a driver who ran down four men Sunday morning, killing three of them.

It happened in the South Shore neighborhood in the 7000 block of South Jeffery around 5 a.m., police said.

Jeffery Street and 71st was littered with dozens of evidence markers next to shoes and pieces of vehicles after a horrific hit and run crash.

Two of the men who died have been identified as Devonta K. Vivetter, 27, of Chicago, and Donald Huey, 25, of South Holland. The third victim who died has not yet been identified.

Pod cam video shows the men flying through the air after the car slammed into them.

Dash camera video caught the crash and shows several people in the street. Then within seconds, a car bolts through, hitting four men.

Chicago police said a sedan was traveling southbound in the 7000 block of South Jeffery when the driver hit four adult men. The car appeared to be traveling very fast.

Theresa said she was just talking to one of the victims.

"I took like three steps and then a car came and hit them. Flew over the car. As he landed, I ran over there like, 'Oh my God!'" she said.

Three men were taken to University of Chicago Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.

"I just told him, don't move. You could be bleeding internally. I ain't never seen nothing like that," the witness said.

The fourth man was transported to Stroger Hospital with unknown injuries.

"I seen another guy laid out, on his back, eyes open. I walked over to him and I was like, 'Are you OK?'" she said.

The hit-and-run happened outside the Jeffery Pub, one of the cities longest running LGBTQ bars. The business posted on its Facebook page saying, "We always encourage everyone to leave and go to your vehicles right away to make it home safe. And tonight this happened."

A family member posted on social media that they are planning a balloon release at Jeffery Pub to honor and remember the three men who lost their lives Sunday morning.

Police did not say if they believe the driver deliberately hit the men in the street.
