3 Dead, 6 Wounded In Monday Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Three men were killed and another six people were wounded in shootings across the city Monday, police said.

The most recent fatal shooting happened about 9 p.m. in the in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

A 39-year-old man was riding a bicycle about 9 p.m. in the 7600 block of South Hoyne Avenue when a red vehicle pulled up next to him and someone exited the vehicle and fired shots, police said. The man was struck in the chest and arm and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not confirm the death early Tuesday.

About 4:35 p.m., a man, 26, was shot to death in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

The man was shot in the head in the 5500 block of South Emerald Avenue, police said. He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 5:16 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office. His name was withheld Monday evening pending notification of his family.

At 7:24 a.m., a man was shot to death in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Authorities found 21-year-old Vincente Obregon unresponsive inside a vehicle in an alley in the 7300 block of South Kedzie Avenue, authorities said.

He had two gunshot wounds to his torso, police said.

Obregon, of the 6400 block of South Whipple Street, was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 8:33 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Obregon had been approached by someone who fired several shots and ran away. He is a documented gang member, according to a police source.

The most recent non-fatal shooting happened in the West Englewood neighborhood Monday evening.

About 6 p.m., the 23-year-old was shot in the right arm in the 5900 block of South Justine Street, police said. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.

Several hours earlier, a teenage boy was shot in the South Side West Englewood neighborhood.

The 17-year-old was in the 6100 block of South Elizabeth Street about 1:50 p.m. when he was shot, police said. He suffered a graze wound to the side of the face and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.

About 12:30 p.m., a 19-year-old was in the 700 block of South Western Avenue on the Near West Side when he was shot in the elbow, according to police, who said he also suffered head trauma. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. A police source said he is a documented gang member.

About 4:30 a.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the 7100 block of South Damen Avenue in West Englewood, police said. The man was walking when a blue van pulled up and at least one gunman got out and opened fire, police said. The man was struck in the left ankle and taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stable. A police source said the victim is a documented gang member.

Less than four hours earlier, a man, 42, was shot after a fight broke out at a South Shore neighborhood home.

About 1 a.m., two males knocked on the man's door in the 7700 block of South South Shore Drive, police said. When the man opened his door, the two rushed in, and all three began to fight. One of the males and the 42-year-old had been in a dispute earlier, police said.

One of the males ran off before a female entered the home and joined the fight, which eventually involved more people inside the home, police said. The female and the remaining male who had originally entered were hit with baseball bats during the brawl.

Then, a third male armed with a gun entered the home, fired shots and struck the 42-year-old in his back before running off, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stable.

The male and female who were hit with a bat were taken to South Shore Hospital in police custody, where their conditions were also stable, police said.

About 12:15 a.m., a 42-year-old man was shot while walking in the 8600 block of South Colfax Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood, police said. A gunman approached and fired shots, striking the man in the leg. He was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stable.
