2024 in Chicago is set to be the warmest year on record

CHICAGO (CBS) -- As 2024 comes to a close, this year is set to be the warmest year on record in Chicago, based on more than 150 years worth of available data.

As we still have plenty of warm days wrapping up the month of December, the average temperature in Chicago for 2024 will end up being between 54.8 degrees and 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

That would break the record of the warmest year on record, which was set in 2012 at 54.5-degrees Fahrenheit.

The official 2024 average temperature will be released as we begin the New Year. We just have to wait and see how warm we get for the remainder of 2024 to find out the official average temperature for the year. We still expect fluctuating weather here in Chicago, but looking at the long-term stats the changing climate is making winters milder, storms are becoming stronger, and summers are getting hotter.
