2-Year-Old Rescued From Pond Remains In Critical Condition

(MONTGOMERY, Ill. (STMW) --A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition after being rescued from a retention pond Monday afternoon near west suburban Montgomery.

Kendall County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call of a missing boy about 12:15 p.m. in the 200 block of Fernwood Road in an unincorporated area near Montgomery, a statement from the sheriff's office said.

A search of the area led to the discovery of the boy in a retention pond near his home. Sheriff's office spokesman Deputy Bryan Harl said the pond was "prtially ice-covered."

"The boy was found a short time after he was reported missing," Harl said.

Deputies and officers from nearby police departments were able to pull the boy from the water, and he was taken by the Oswego Fire Dept. to a hospital in critical condition, the statement said.

The circumstances around the incident remain under investigation, and police would not say whether he was in the care of his parents at the time.
