2 Killed, 43 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were killed and at least 43 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago between Friday night and Monday morning.

About 11:05 p.m. Sunday, a man was shot to death during an attempted robbery in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Marquis Mitchell, 32, was at the wheel of a parked vehicle with a passenger in the 1500 block of South Kildare when someone rode up on a bicycle and announced a robbery, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office

Mitchell drove away while the person on the bicycle opened fire, authorities said.

He was shot in the left side and drove to the 1800 block of South Kildare, where the vehicle crashed into a fence, police said.

Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:26 p.m., authorities said. He was from the 2400 block of West Madison.

No one else was injured in the shooting, police said.

About 11 p.m. Friday, a teenager was killed and a man was wounded in a shooting in the West Englewood neighborhood.

Torri Williams, 17, and a 20-year-old man were in the 6400 block of South Justine when a male got out of a passing white Cadillac and shot them, authorities said.

Williams, of the 9000 block of South Laflin, was shot in the chest and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:52 p.m., authorities said.

The 20-year-old was shot in the arm and taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

In the most recent nonfatal shooting of the weekend, an 18-year-old man was shot early Monday in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

He was riding a bicycle about 4:15 a.m. in the 6400 block of South King Drive when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital with gunshot wounds to the hip and ankle, and his condition stabilized, police said.

About two hours earlier, a 25-year-old man was shot in the leg in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

The man was outside about 2:15 a.m. in the 1100 block of North Kedvale when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

About 2 a.m., a teenager was shot in the hand in South Chicago.

The boy, 17, was walking to a store in the 2800 block of East 80th Street when a dark-colored vehicle pulled up, the driver got out and opened fire, police said. Family members took him to South Shore Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. Police think the shooting was gang-related.

At least 39 other people have been shot across the city since 9:30 p.m. Friday.
