2 Killed, 12 Wounded In Shootings Since Wednesday Morning
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men were killed and at least 12 other people were injured in a spate of gun violence across Chicago from Wednesday morning through early Thursday.
The most recent fatal shooting happened about 2 a.m. Thursday at an Austin neighborhood gas station on the West Side.
A 20-year-old man was outside the station in the 100 block of South Cicero when someone walked up and shot him multiple times, police said.
He was unresponsive when emergency crews arrived and was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. His identity was withheld pending family notification.
About an hour-and-a-half earlier, a 43-year-old man was found shot to death on a Chatham neighborhood sidewalk on the South Side.
Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 12:30 a.m. found him unresponsive in the 8100 block of South Normal and he was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. His name has not been released.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened just before midnight in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
A 23-year-old man was sitting in a parked car in the 700 block of South Kostner when someone walked up and shot him in the leg, police said. A relative drove him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
About a half-hour before that, a 21-year-old man was shot multiple times in the South Side Grand Boulevard neighborhood. The shooting happened at 11:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of South Indiana, police said. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center and later transferred to Mount Sinai, where his condition was stabilized.
In the North Side Edgewater Beach neighborhood, a 25-year-old man was shot about 11 p.m. Someone walked up to him in the 5700 block of North Kenmore and shot him multiple times, police said. His condition was stabilized at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
At 10 p.m., a 21-year-old woman was outside in the 8600 block of South Carpenter when she heard shots and felt pain. She suffered a graze wound to her side and was treated at the scene and released, police said.
Just before 9 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the arm while driving in the 4400 block of West Walton in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, police said. He was listed in good condition at Mount Sinai.
About 8 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the 8000 block of South Carpenter in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, police said. He suffered gunshot wounds to his arm, hand and groin and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.
Minutes earlier, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. About 7:50 p.m. he was sitting in a vehicle in the 4700 block of West Ohio when someone walked up and shot him in the leg, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition.
About 6:30 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in the leg and chest in the 300 block of South Homan in East Garfield Park. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said.
Another man, 20, was shot in the leg in the Washington Park neighborhood about 5 p.m. That shooting happened in the 5700 block of South Michigan and taken to a hospital in good condition, police said.
Ten minutes before that, a 25-year-old man was shot in the 4500 block of North Clarendon in the Uptown neighborhood. He was in good condition at Illinois Masonic.
About 4:15 p.m., a 17-year-old girl was shot in the chest in the Morgan Park neighborhood on the Far South Side, police said. She was shot in the 1300 block of West 111th Street and taken to Christ Medical Center in serious condition.
The day's first shooting was reported about 10:30 a.m.
A man walked into Saint Bernard Hospital at 326 W. 64th Street with gunshot wounds to his hip and back, police said. He told investigators he was shot in the 6300 block of South Artesian, but no crime scene was found.
