2 Killed, 10 Wounded In Tuesday Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people were killed and at least 10 others were wounded in shootings Tuesday across Chicago, police said.

A 17-year-old boy was gunned down shortly after 10 p.m. in the Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side, according to Chicago Police.

The teenager was standing outside in the 3300 block of West Douglas when another male walked up and opened fire, police said. The teenager was shot in the chest, right arm and face and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Earlier Tuesday, a man was shot to death in the Uptown neighborhood on the North Side, police said.

The 25-year-old got into an argument with another man about 2:45 p.m. in the 4500 block of North Kenmore, when the man pulled out a gun and opened fire, police said. The shooter then ran through a gangway and took off in a black vehicle. The 25-year-old suffered five gunshot wounds to the chest and two to the right leg and was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he died, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately confirm either fatality Tuesday night.

Most recently, a 32-year-old man was shot during a robbery in the Lake Meadows neighborhood on the South Side. He was in a vehicle about 11:50 p.m. in the 400 block of East 33rd Street when two males walked up and announced a robbery, police said. Gunfire erupted and the man suffered a gunshot wound to the right hand. He drove himself to Mercy Hospital and his condition was stabilized.

Less than an hour earlier, a 19-year-old man was shot while he was driving in the South Side Englewood neighborhood. At 10:59 p.m., the 19-year-old was driving north on South Halsted Street near West 59th Street when a male on the sidewalk fired shots, police said. The man was shot in the left arm and drove himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

At 8:55 p.m., two men were wounded in a Chatham neighborhood shooting on the South Side. The men, ages 31 and 38, were standing on the sidewalk in the 700 block of East 79th Street when someone inside a yellow car nearby fired shots in their direction, police said. They both suffered gunshot wounds to the legs. The younger man was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, while the older man was treated at Jackson Park Hospital. Both of their conditions were stabilized.

Earlier Tuesday afternoon, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. The teenager was standing outside about 4:45 p.m. in the 2600 block of West Crystal when someone walked up, spoke with the teen, then fired shots, police said. The teen was shot in the foot and taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital.

About 12:10 p.m., a 71-year-old man was shot during an attempted robbery in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. He was watering his lawn in the 7100 block of South California when he was approached by two males on bikes who demanded his wallet, and when the man refused, one of the males shot him, police said. He was struck in the abdomen. The two males then fled north on California. The 71-year-old was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and was later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in fair condition.

About nine hours earlier, a 20-year-old man was wounded in a West Englewood neighborhood shooting on the South Side. He was walking down the street about 3 a.m. in the 6300 block of South Winchester when he heard gunshots and realized he'd been struck in the back, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said the man is gang affiliated.

At 2:17 a.m., an 18-year-old man was walking in the 900 block of North Long in the West Side Austin neighborhood, when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the back and buttocks, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Tuesday's first shooting happened at 12:41 a.m. in the South Side Englewood neighborhood. A 25-year-old woman and 36-year-old man were driving south in the 5600 block of South Green when someone in a white vehicle nearby fired shots, police said. The man was shot in the left knee, while the woman suffered graze wounds to both legs. Both of their conditions were stabilized as St. Bernard Hospital.
