2 Dead, 26 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were killed and at least 26 others — including an 11-year-old girl — have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday evening.

A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed just a few minutes after midnight Sunday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Brandon Peterson was standing with a group of people in the 3100 block of West Polk Street at 12:05 a.m. when he was shot in the head and lower left leg, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Peterson, of the 3000 block of West Polk Street, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 12:26 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

A man was shot and killed Friday night in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Dewey Knox, 27, was standing on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of South Central Park Avenue about 11:55 p.m. when a dark-colored sedan drove past and someone inside fired shots, authorities said.

Knox, of the 1400 block of South Troy Street, suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:22 a.m., authorities said.

The most recent shooting happened early Sunday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

A 27-year-old man was shot in both legs about 2:20 a.m. in the 4300 block of West Van Buren Street, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition.

A shooting late Sunday injured three people in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side.

The group was standing on a sidewalk in the 5000 block of South Michigan Avenue about 11:30 p.m. when a gunman on a bicycle rode by and opened fire, police said.

An 11-year-old girl was shot in the ankle and taken in good condition to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, police said. Another girl, 17, was shot in the leg and taken in good condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

A third victim, a 19-year-old man, showed up at Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center with graze wounds to the ankle and thigh, police said. He is expected to be treated and released.

At least 22 others were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday night. No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
