2 people killed, 3 children among 5 others hurt in pair of overnight fires on Chicago's South Side

CHICAGO (CBS) — Two people were killed, and three children were among five others hurt after a pair of overnight fires on the city's South Side, according to police and fire officials.
The fires happened in the South Shore and Bridgeport neighborhoods.
One of the fires happened around 2:30 a.m. inside a three-story building in the 2400 block of East 78th Street in South Shore.
A man, 24, was found dead at the scene. Another man, 27, was taken to Trinity Hospital for a non-fire-related injury. A woman was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
Two boys, 2 and 7, were taken to Comer Children's Hospital with unknown injuries. The 2-year-old was in good condition, and the 7-year-old was in critical condition.
Officials were investigating the cause of the fire.
Around the same time, crews battled another fire that left one person dead at an apartment in the 3100 block of South Green Street in Bridgeport just before 2:30 a.m.
Firefighters were seen attacking the flames from the roof and the ground.
Chicago police said a man threw an incendiary device through the window of the apartment.
A woman, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene. A girl, 12, was taken by fire crews to Stroger Hospital in fair condition.
No arrests were made, and an arson unit is investigating.
