16-year-old girl stabbed to death in downtown Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS)-- A 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death in The Loop overnight.
Police said the teen got into a fight with another woman in the first block of West Van Buren Street just before 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday. According to police, the woman used a knife to stab the teen twice in the chest before running off.
The teen, identified as Heaven Taylor, was taken to Northwestern Hospital where she died.
Video posted to Facebook shows the scene minutes before police arrived when a group of teens were arguing before the L tracks. Words turned to violence and Taylor ended up on the ground.
Taylor was in the 10th grade at UCAN Academy South, an alternative school on the South Side. Her principal said Taylor had a huge, bold personality and was as bright as her colorful red hair. She said Taylor loved art and coloring.
The principal shared news of Taylor's death with the school community on Wednesday. UCAN Academy said it had social workers and grief counselors on campus Wednesday to meet with students and staff.
No arrests have been made.
Area 3 detectives are investigating the incident.
