14-year-old boy shot and killed in Woodlawn

Boy, 14, found shot, killed in Woodlawn

CHICAGO (CBS)-- Another teenager is shot and killed in Chicago. This time it's a 14-year-old whose body was found in Woodlawn.

As CBS 2's Mugo Odigwe explains, it's the latest case of young kids turning into gun violence victims in the city.

We're still waiting for the Medical Examiner's Office to put out a bit more info about that 14-year-old boy. But when it comes to the investigation, it doesn't seem like police have much to go off of.

The shooting happened 1000 block of East Marquette Avenue in Woodlawn around 12:15 a.m.

Police responded to shots fired and upon arrival found the 14-year-old boy unresponsive on the ground.

The boy had been shot multiple times on his torso and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several officers were out there overnight and police tape blocking off the crime scene. We counted at least 29 evidence markers on the ground.

We looked at the numbers and found that starting from 5 p.m. last Friday to 5 a.m. Thursday morning, seven minors have been shot in Chicago and of those seven, two were killed including the 14-year-old.

Police say witnesses told them they saw a blue minivan driving away from the scene following the shooting.

A weapon was recovered.

No one is in custody as of Thursday.
