Boy, 11, Shot And Wounded In West Pullman; He Is Second Child Shot In Area Within Week
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An 11-year-old boy was shot late Sunday afternoon in a car in the West Pullman neighborhood.
At 5:45 p.m., the boy was in a vehicle in the 400 block of West 119th Street when a white Honda came up along the side and someone inside fired shots, police said.
The boy was shot in the arm and was taken to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately available, but he was expected recover.
CBS 2's crews arrived to find police and multiple shell casings at 119th Street and Eggleston Avenue.
"If you know, or you've seen this individual, or you've got the license plate number of this car, give that information over to the detectives," said community activist Andrew Holmes. "We've got to stop complaining. We've got to get on the ground. We've got to stop this, and it can be stopped. But we need help on all ends."
The scene of this shooting was just a little more than a mile away from where another child, also 11, was shot this past Monday.
Ny-Andra Dyer, 11, was caught in the middle of crossfire while sitting in a car at a gas station near 127th Street and Wentworth Avenue. She was shot in the face.
Doctors at the Comer are doing everything possible to save Ny-Andra's life as her family prays the swelling in her brain will go down. However, family members told CBS 2's Jermont Terry on Friday that it was "not looking promising."
The bullet pierced her spinal cord. Doctors told her mother it is too dangerous to remove, leaving her daughter in a touch and go situation with swelling on her brain.
Earlier in the week, Ny-Andra's mother made an emotional plea for the shooters to surrender.
No one was in custody late Sunday for either of the shootings on Sunday night and Area Two detectives were investigating. There is a $30,000 dollar reward up for the person who helps catch and convict the shooter in Ny-Andra's case, as many still are hoping she pulls through.
