11 fire departments battle massive building fire in north Chicago suburb

EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS) -- Nearly a dozen different fire departments battled a massive building fire in Evanston Sunday night.

Crews worked to put out the blaze at a mixed-use building at 1402 Greenleaf St., at Wesley Avenue. Crews arrived on the scene around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the Evanston Fire Department.

The fire started in the basement and first floor, but quickly spread to the roof.

No injuries were reported.

The Ware Ceramic Studio, founded by potters Joanna Kramer and Julia Findlayson, was among the businesses impacted by the fire.

"I've been going for so long, and I've made so many things at Joanna's, and it's just really sad to see all this happen," said witness and Ware Ceramic Studio workshop participant Flicka Adams.

The Fireheads Clay Studio and Shania Young Wellness also occupied storefronts around the corner on the Wesley Avenue side of the building.

In the past, the building had also housed Raydiant Day life healing and coaching, Green Edens Horticultural Services, Vitality Fitness + Thai Bodywork, and the Traditional Taoist Martial Arts Academy.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of fire.
