$100K Bond For Man Charged With Assaulting Oak Brook Police Officer
(CBS) -- A 19-year-old Chicago man appeared in court today and is being held on $100,000 bond after being charged with aggravated assault and battery to an Oak Brook police officer.
It was a week ago when police say 19-year-old Devin Dawson and at least two other people tried to walk out of a Home Depot in Oak Brook Terrace with some merchandise they didn't pay for.
Store personnel chased them and authorities say so did a plainclothes Oak Brook police officer who confronted Dawson as he was behind the wheel of a van in the parking lot.
"The offender continued to accelerate," said DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin. "He then made a sharp turn which caused the detective to be thrown to the ground. And fortunately the officer is OK. He was treated for his injuries."
Berlin says Dawson was arrested four days later, which was last Sunday.
