100-Year-Old Cubs Fan Dies Three Weeks After Delivering Game Ball
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Funeral services were held downstate on Wednesday for a very long-suffering Chicago Cubs fan who got to live out a lifelong dream a few weeks ago.
WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports 100-year-old Louis Reinhart was supposed to be part of the Wrigley Field centennial celebration on Opening Day, but Chicago traffic tied up his family, and they got to the stadium too late to deliver the game ball as planned.
His big moment was rescheduled for June 8, and he was there in plenty of time to hand the game ball to the umpires.
The Metamora resident beamed from ear to ear as he met current Cubs players, including Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo.
The former farmer and handyman was a lifelong Cubs fan, and watched his team win the National League pennant six times, but he never got to celebrate a World Series title.
