1 Dead After Shootout With Police In Lawndale

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 30-year-old man is dead after a shootout with Chicago police Saturday afternoon in Lawndale.

Police said around 3:40 p.m., officers conducted a street stop of a person walking in the 1400 block of South Lawndale Avenue. Officers discovered the person was armed, and a confrontation ensued.

Investigators say two officers opened fire in two separate locations.

The offender fled on foot but was eventually taken into custody. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His identity has not been released.

No officers were struck by gunfire, but one was transported to a local hospital for chest pains.

Police said all officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duty for 30 days.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) says they're looking into the police shooting.
