Man charged with killing his 2 brothers, setting fire to Highland Park, Illinois house

Highland Park police arrest man suspected of killing two brothers found dead at burning home

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (CBS) — A man has been charged with the murder his own two murders of two brothers, who were found dead outside a house fire in north suburban Highland Park on Wednesday.

Authorities believe the man also set fire to the house – which had belonged to his and his brothers' late mother.

Jeffrey Austwick, 54, was arrested in St. Louis early Friday morning. He is accused of killing his two older brothers – Marc Austwick, 63, of Lake Forest, and John Austwick, 60, of Mundelein.

Austwick was charged with two counts of murder in a nationwide arrest warrant issued Wednesday.

The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force said Marc and John Austwick went to the house in Highland Park to discuss the property with their younger brother. The property had been owned by the three brothers' mother, who had died recently.

After Marc and John Austwick arrived, Jeffrey shot and killed them both – and then set the house on fire, authorities said.

Jeffrey then drove off, authorities said.

Autopsies indicated Jeffrey Austwick's two older brothers died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Jeffrey Austwick was found around 5:30 a.m. in a park in St. Louis, where he was arrested by local authorities. He was in custody in Missouri late Friday, pending an initial court hearing, authorities said.
