Man killed, another hurt after Chicago shooting in broad daylight

CHICAGO (CBS) – One person is dead and another is in critical condition following a shooting on the city's West Side Wednesday morning.

Chicago police said around 10:30 a.m., a 46-year-old man and another male of unknown age were on the sidewalk, in the 200 block of South Cicero Avenue, when they were shot by an unknown offender.

The 46-year-old victim was shot in the right flank and back and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. The second victim suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was also taken to Stroger where he was pronounced dead.

A firearm was recovered on the scene, according to police.

CBS 2's Shardaa Gray reported that surveillance footage from Curly's Deli Mart nearby showed the suspect and one of the two victims talking in a group. The video shows one victim walking away and the suspect chasing after him with a gun.

People were seen running into the store to avoid gunfire.

"I hate to see stuff like this in our neighborhood," said James Bush, a security guard at the store. "It's just a sad situation for the person it happened to and even sadder for the person who did it."

Bush arrived at the store after the shooting happened.

"A bullet has no name," he said. "If the person you're trying to shoot at into the crowd, you're shooting at him, then you're going to hit somebody else."

No arrests have been announced.

Area Four Detectives are investigating.
