1 Killed, 8 Wounded In Tuesday Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and at least eight others were wounded in shootings Tuesday across Chicago.
A man was shot to death Tuesday night in the Burnside neighborhood on the South Side. The 23-year-old man was exiting a vehicle in the 9000 block of South Greenwood at 9:03 p.m. when the driver fired at him before driving away, Chicago Police said.
He was shot in the chest and head and taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, where he died at 10:23 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. His identity was being withheld early Wednesday pending notification of his family.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened late Tuesday in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side. A 32-year-old man was shot in the leg at 11:22 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Vernon, according to Chicago Police. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Less than an hour earlier, two men were injured in a Chicago Lawn neighborhood shooting on the South Side. The men, ages 22 and 29, were getting into a vehicle in the 6300 block of South Artesian about 10:30 p.m. when a dark minivan pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said. The 22-year-old suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital. The older man was shot in the right leg and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said both men are documented gang members.
Earlier Tuesday afternoon, a man was injured in a shooting in the Far South Side Morgan Park neighborhood. The 22-year-old man was shot in the foot at 5:46 p.m. in the 10900 block of South Racine Avenue, police said. He was listed in good condition at an unknown hospital.
At 2:12 p.m., a 32-year-old man was shot in the Logan Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side. He was shot in the 3600 block of West Dickens Avenue and took himself to Presence St. Mary's Hospital in good condition, police said.
Less than 10 minutes earlier on the South Side, a man was injured in a Washington Park neighborhood shooting. The 18-year-old was shot in the buttocks at 2:04 p.m. in the 5700 block of South Michigan Avenue, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Tuesday morning, a man walked into a South Side hospital after being shot in the Englewood neighborhood. The 33-year-old walked into St. Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg a few minutes before 11 a.m., police said. He told investigators he had been shot in the 6400 block of South Stewart. His condition was stabilized at the hospital.
Tuesday's first shooting happened about 1:15 a.m. in the Princeton Park neighborhood on the South Side. A 20-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 9100 block of South Wentworth when another male walked up and opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the right shoulder and later walked into Advocate Trinity Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
