1 Killed, 8 Wounded In Shootings Thursday Across Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was killed and at least eight other people were wounded in shootings Thursday across Chicago.
The 48-year-old man was killed and another seriously wounded in a shooting in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.
The shooting happened at 4:57 a.m. in the 5500 block of South Perry, possibly during a robbery, according to preliminary information from Chicago Police.
Anthony Thorpe, 48, was shot in the mouth and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. He lived in the 500 block of West 14th Place.
Another man, 35, was shot in the shoulder and back, and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said.
Police said the shooting might have happened during a robbery, but additional information was not immediately available Thursday night.
Just after 11:30 p.m., a 23-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 1800 block of West 21st Street when he heard shots and realized he'd been hit, according to police. He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital though his condition was not immediately known early Friday.
About the same time, a 24-year-old man was walking in the 7000 block of North Sacramento when someone in a passing vehicle shot him in the left forearm, according to police. He was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where his condition stabilized.
A 23-year-old man was in the 200 block of South Western about 10:45 p.m. when someone in a passing black SUV shot him in the left foot, police said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
About 1:14 p.m., a 58-year-old woman was shot in the left foot when she was caught in crossfire between two groups of males in the 400 block of East 63rd Street in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood, police said. She was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where her condition was stabilized. Police said she did not appear to be the intended target of the shooting.
About 10:15 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the foot in the 1200 block of West 70th Street in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, police said. He showed up at St. Bernard Hospital.
Earlier Thursday morning, a man was shot repeatedly in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. The 39-year-old victim was in the 0-100 block of West 112th Place at 5:35 a.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was shot in the arm and abdomen, and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
Thursday's first shooting happened about 3:10 a.m. in the University Village neighborhood on the Near West Side. A 22-year-old man was walking in the 1100 block of West Taylor when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside started shooting, police said. He was shot in the leg, and later walked into Rush University Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
