1 Killed, 5 Wounded In Thursday Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was killed and at least five other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago on Thursday.
The homicide happened about 12:30 a.m. in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.
Officers responding to a call of shots fired found 22-year-old Lee McCullum III on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was dead at the scene.
McCullum, who lived in the 11400 block of South Yale, had been featured in the 2014 CNN documentary series "Chicagoland," portrayed as a teen who had turned his life around to become a student leader with plans for college. Family members said he had been on his way to work at a Wendy's restaurant when he was killed.
The latest nonfatal shooting left two people wounded Thursday night in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood.
A 17-year-old boy and 35-year-old man were standing outside in the 6300 block of South Rhodes about 9:50 p.m. when one or more people walked up and fired shots. The teen was shot in the ankle, and the man in the leg and foot, police said. They were both taken to Saint Bernard Hospital, where they were listed in good condition..
Twenty minutes earlier, a 25-year-old man was injured in an Austin neighborhood drive-by on the West Side. He was standing outside just after 9:30 p.m. in the 4800 block of West Ferdinand when someone in a white vehicle shot him in the face. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
Another Austin shooting happened about 7:45 p.m., when another 25-year-old man was shot in the hip in the 900 block of North Lamon. He took himself to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park and his condition was stabilized, police said.
An hour before that, a 50-year-old woman was shot in Auburn Gresham on the South Side. She was standing outside about 6:40 p.m. near 88th and Wood when a passenger in a passing green vehicle fired shots, striking her in the ankle and buttocks. Her condition was stabilized at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
On Wednesday, at least 20 people were shot across the city, leaving four dead.
