1 Killed, 19 Wounded In Weekend Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was killed and at least 19 other people have been wounded in shootings since the start of the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The fatal attack also left another man wounded early Saturday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, according to Chicago Police.

Hector Badillo Jr., 31, was standing outside an auto repair shop about 3:30 a.m. in the 700 block of North California Avenue when a gunman came out of an alley and opened fire, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Badillo, of the 400 block of North Trumbull, was shot in the neck and pronounced dead at the scene at 3:41 a.m., authorities said. Family members said his father owned the repair shop.

A 44-year-old man sitting in a car nearby was shot in the left leg, police said. His condition was stabilized at Stroger Hospital.

The latest nonfatal shooting happened about 6:10 a.m. Sunday in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. A 16-year-old was walking in an alley in the 2800 block of West Polk when he heard gunfire and felt pain, police said. He was shot in both legs and taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

At 4:52 a.m., a female was shot in the leg in the 12300 block of South Halsted in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side. She was taken in good condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. Additional information, including the victim's age, was not available.

About an hour earlier, a 37-year-old woman was shot in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the Far South Side. She suffered a graze wound to the arm at 3:52 a.m. in the 9600 block of South Morgan, according to police. Additional details were not available.

Less than an hour earlier, a man was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. The 35-year-old was standing outside about 3 a.m. in the 3600 block of West Grand when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the hand, police said. He was taken to Norwegian American Hospital, where he was treated and released.

About 2:20 a.m., a 38-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side. He was standing outside in the 2500 block of South Spaulding when a dark-colored vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the chest and arm and taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

At least 13 more people were shot in separate attacks across the city between 5:30 p.m. Friday and 3:40 a.m. Saturday.

At least 63 people were shot over the Fourth of July weekend in 2015, leaving 10 dead.
