1 In Custody, No Injuries After Jefferson Park Hostage Standoff

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One suspect is in custody and there are no injuries after a hostage standoff at a Northwest side store that happened late Saturday, Sept. 10.

CBS 2's Lauren Victory reports, a man threatened to hurt people inside a Jefferson Park 7-Eleven and police were trying to rescue them.

According to police, a man entered the 7-Eleven on Milwaukee and Higgins Rd. and held two victims against their will.

Witnesses inside the store said the suspect broke a liquor bottle and threatened them.

Audio captured between working law enforcement during the standoff says the caller was "willing to point a gun at anyone who tried to come in his store."

SWAT teams were in the area shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday.

Outside the store, police shut down streets and asked the Chicago Transit Authority to bypass the Jefferson Park stop.

One man says that shutdown forced him to spend the night in the suburbs.

"After 9:20, the busses stop working," Mike Kim, a stranded CTA rider said, "And I was working last night. That's why I'm stuck here."

The standoff ended with no injuries after 1 a.m. on Sunday.

Police haven't identified the suspect, but said he was undergoing a mental evaluation Saturday morning.
