1 Dead, 9 Wounded In Wednesday Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person is dead and at least nine others were wounded in shootings throughout the city on Wednesday, including four people shot outside a Goose Island nightclub.
The fatal shooting happened in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, where a man was found lying on a sidewalk about 7:35 a.m.
Jeremiah Shaw, 19, was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the 5400 block of South Laflin Street, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Shaw, of the 5900 block of South Wabash, was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner's office said.
Police said he is a documented gang member and the shooting is thought to be gang-related.
About four hours before that, four people were shot near Hearts Night Club on the Near North Side.
Two men, thought to be in their 30s, were found shot in the club's parking lot at 1115 N. North Branch St. about 3:40 a.m., police said. One was shot in the leg and groin area, and the other was shot in the chest and back, police said. Both were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
A third man, also in his 30s, showed up at Rush University Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg, and he was transferred to Stroger Hospital, police said. His condition was not immediately known.
A fourth man later showed up at Stroger with a gunshot wound to his right arm, police said. His age and condition were unknown.
The most recent non-fatal shooting happened about 11:20 p.m. in West Englewood.
A 16-year-old boy was sitting on a front porch about 11:20 p.m. in the 7000 block of South Winchester when two males fired opened fire from a vacant lot nearby, police said. He was shot in the face and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stable, Alfaro said.
Two people were injured in separate shootings an hour apart in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.
A 28-year-old man was near 74th Street and Eggleston Avenue about 10:20 p.m. when someone in a dark-colored vehicle drove by and fired shots, striking the man in his leg, police said. He was taken in fair condition to Christ Medical Center. Police said the man is a documented gang member who is not cooperating with authorities.
At 9:30 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot in the same neighborhood.
Two males approached the man in the 7300 block of South Evans and opened fire, striking him in the leg, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition is stable, police said.
Four hours earlier, a 23-year-old was wounded in a drive-by shooting in Englewood on the South Side.
The man was in the 7200 block of South Green about 5:20 p.m. when someone drove by in a minivan and opened fire, police said. A bullet grazed the man's shoulder and head. His condition was stable at Christ Medical Center.
A man was shot several hours earlier in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.
The 23-year-old was shot in the leg about 8:45 a.m. while he was in the 4100 block of West Crystal, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stable.
Police said the man is a documented gang member.
