1 Dead, 9 Wounded In Tuesday Shootings Across Chicago
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 16-year-old boy was killed and at least nine others were wounded in shootings Tuesday across Chicago.
The teenager was shot to death in the East Chatham neighborhood on the South Side, police said.
He was found at 1:07 a.m. in a hallway of an apartment building in the 800 block of East 83rd Street, according to Chicago Police.
The boy was shot in the chest and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened late Tuesday in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
A 17-year-old boy was walking in the 3100 block of West 38th Street about 11 p.m. when a silver vehicle emerged from the alley and someone inside opened fire, police said. The teenager was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said he is a documented gang member.
About 9:50 p.m., a 27-year-old man walked into Mount Sinai Hospital, at California and Ogden avenues, with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and upper leg, police said. His condition was stabilized. The man, who police said is a documented gang member, was being uncooperative and investigators could not immediately confirm the location of the shooting.
About two hours earlier, three people were shot in the Albany Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side. Two men, both 25 years old, and a juvenile were standing outside about 7:40 p.m. in the 4600 block of North Central Park Avenue when another male walked up and opened fire, police said. The juvenile, whose exact age was not known, was shot in the leg and taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston. One 25-year-old man was shot in the hand, while the other was shot in the leg. They were both taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. All three victims' conditions were stabilized, police said.
A man who has lived on the same block as the shooting for six years was outside with family members as police investigated. The 29-year-old, who did not want to be named, said he is trying to move somewhere else with his wife and child.
"I work armed security at 71st and Jeffrey and it's crazy down there," he said. "Now I get it at home."
About 6:40 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot during an argument in the South Side Gresham neighborhood. The teenager was arguing with a group of people in the 1600 block of West 79th when one of them pulled out a gun and shot him in the thigh, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
Five minutes earlier, a man showed up at a South Side hospital after being shot in the foot in the Englewood neighborhood. The 28-year-old walked into St. Bernard Hospital about 6:35 p.m. with a gunshot wound, police said. He told investigators he had been standing outside in the 7300 block of South Stewart when someone in a passing vehicle started shooting. He was listed in good condition, police said.
Earlier Tuesday evening, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side. He had been involved in a fight with a group of group of people near a gas station in the 5100 block of West Madison, when the people left and then came back about 5:30 p.m. and fired shots at the teenager, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said the shooting likely was gang-related.
Tuesday's first shooting left a 33-year-old man wounded in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. He was outside in the 10300 block of South Wentworth Avenue at 12:15 a.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, according to police. The man suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and took himself to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, where his condition was stabilized.
