CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (STMW) -- A Crystal Lake man was killed and another person was critically injured in a traffic crash involving three vehicles Monday evening in the northwest suburban.
A four-door Toyota was headed south on Pyott Road from Rakow Road about 5:45 p.m. when it crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a four-door Honda, according to a statement from Crystal Lake police.
The force of the collision drove the Honda into a Chevy Tahoe that had been northbound on Pyott, police said.
The driver of the Honda died at the scene, authorities said.
John J. Moore, 43, of Crystal Lake, died of multiple blunt force injuries from the crash, the McHenry County Coroner's office said.
Emergency crews had to extricate the driver of the Toyota, a 60-year-old man from Lake in the Hills, who was taken to Centegra Hospital-McHenry with life-threatening injuries, police said. He was later transferred to Rockford Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the Chevy, a 27-year-old man, and his passenger, a 27-year-old woman, both of Crystal Lake, were taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where they were treated and released, police said.
Pyott Road was closed to traffic for nearly four hours before lanes reopened about 9:30 p.m., police said.
No charges had been issued as of Tuesday morning as Crystal Lake police investigate along with the McHenry County Coroner's office and McHenry County State's Attorney's office.
