Zolak & Bertrand: Does Russell Wilson Think He's Jesus?
BOSTON (CBS) -- Russell Wilson may seem like just a regular 26-year-old man, born in Ohio, raised in Virginia, educated in North Carolina and Wisconsin, employed in the state of Washington.
But no, Wilson is much more than a man. He is a prophet, and God speaks to him directly.
At least, that's what Wilson says.
The Seahawks quarterback said that not only did God speak to him to tell him to abstain from sex with his girlfriend, Ciara, but The Almighty also carved some time out of his busy schedule to pull some strings at the Super Bowl in order to use Wilson as a symbol of inspiration to the masses.
No, seriously.
Here's what Wilson claims God told him after the quarterback threw the interception to lose the Super Bowl to the Patriots:
"So, the play happens, they make the play, right? In front of all those people, and millions of people watching, and ... they pick the ball off and I take three steps [toward the sideline], one, two, three, and on the third step, God says to me, He goes, 'I'm using you.' So I'm like, 'OK.' So I take another -- one, two three, my sixth step, I take another step, and another third step or whatever, and God says to me, He says, 'I want to see how you respond. But most importantly, I want them to see how you respond."
Believe it or not, Marc Bertrand, Scott Zolak and Rob "Hardy" Poole weren't exactly buying into this divine tale.
"What do you think he sounds like?" Zolak asked. "Can you imagine if he sounds like Mike Tyson."
Producer Jim Louth offered an interesting scenario: "I'd love to see Richard Sherman and Marshawn Lynch respond after he told them he talked to God."
Hardy knows what he'd tell Wilson: "You know what Russell? God spoke to me just now, and he said, 'I've never spoken to Russell Wilson.' So I'm just saying! For what it's worth, the voice you're hearing that keeps telling you not to have sex with that girl because it's something about Jesus, and then 'them' how they see you. That's not him. ... Hold on .... yeah ... he just said it again, that he's never talked to you."
"I think people who hear voices are nuts," Zolak said. "I don't doubt his faith, I think the kid can play ... I just hope this doesn't affect him moving forward."
Bertrand interrupted: "No, listen, one thing is faith. Another thing is telling you, 'Listen, the man speaks to me directly, and he speaks to me about football games and my girlfriend. Do you think God has enough time on his schedule to be talking to you about Ciara or about Pete Carroll calling a pass play instead of a run?"
Zolak suggested that Wilson get himself on Joel Osteen's stage.
"Oh, for sure. Oh, boy, that would be a gathering," Bertand said. "It'd be like Jesus himself walking through that door."
