York, Maine Middle School Principal Charged With Drunk Driving

YORK, Maine (CBS) - A York, Maine middle school principal is charged with drunk driving after he was arrested Saturday night, police say.

David Williams, 42, of Barrington, New Hampshire, was arrested at about 8:10 p.m. on Long Beach Avenue. He was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

He is the principal at York Middle School.

Lt. Robert Scamman, Sr. says they received complaints from a woman about a man driving a Silver Ford pickup truck that was "was all over the road" and was "stumbling" around when he stopped at an Irving gas station.

Police say she called back a second time to say that she was following the truck toward York Beach and that he was still all over the road and that she was concerned that he would hit someone.

The principal allegedly took a breathalyzer that registered a .11 blood-alcohol level which is .03 above the legal limit.

Williams was released on bail.

Scamman says police gave Williams a ride to his truck to pick up his belongings before taking him to where he was staying in York.

He is set to appear in York District Court on June 17, according to a Bangor Daily News report.
