2 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured In Yarmouth Head-On Crash

YARMOUTH (CBS) -- Two people were killed and a third was seriously injured in a head-on collision in Yarmouth Saturday night, police said.

The crash happened around 10:40 p.m. Saturday on Buck Island Road, between Janor Way and the Halcyon condo complex.

Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Yarmouth Police identified them as Caroline Liberty, 22, of West Yarmouth, and Thomas Ardan, 56, of Charlton.

Ardan's wife, Mary, 60, is currently in critical condition.

She was taken to Cape Cod Hospital, and then to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where she is battling life-threatening injuries.

"Just pray for this family because they're a wonderful family," family friend Mike Morehead said. "It's devastating. His son is getting married next month."

Police are still trying to determine the cause of the crash.

"The most awful sound I've ever heard," said one neighbor, describing the collision. "It was so loud, we didn't know what it was."

The section of Buck Island Road where the crash happened was closed for about four hours.

Yarmouth Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or knows anything about the events leading up to it to contact them.
