Twin Baby Boys Found Alone By Worcester Railroad Tracks, Police Investigating
WORCESTER (CBS) – An investigation is underway after twin baby boys were found alone by railroad tracks in Worcester overnight.
Railroad employees told police they found the infants, about 9 months old, by themselves near the railroad tracks by Kansas Street. The workers called 911 and paramedics responded to take the babies to the hospital.
Eric Martell was the one who spotted the children.
"It was the happiest I've ever been to hear a baby cry in my life," he said. "Everything happens for a reason I believe and we were able to make a difference."
The twins appeared to be unharmed, and have been identified. They are currently in Department of Children and Families custody.
Carl Wooden said he was with the woman who abandoned babies a short time before it happened.
"I'm angry, I'm sad. Confused," he said.
Georgeanna Broadard lives near the tracks where the babies were found.
"I can't see how anyone can do that to babies where there are so many safe havens around," she said. "It's sad because there's a church right there - Sacred Heart Church, she could've brought the babies. She could've knocked on anyone's door wherever she was. I'm sure she could've knocked on anyone's door and anyone would've helped her. I would have."
Both Worcester police detectives and DCF are investigating. Police said they know who the twins' caregivers are. They're asking anyone with information to contact police at 508-799-8651.
