Marguerite "Muggy" Tomany, 61, of North Grosvenor Dale, Conn., died as a result of injuries she suffered in the lightning strike, acting Police Chief Jonathan Hubbard said in a statement Monday.

Tomany and a 69-year-old woman from Concord were struck by lightning at Crane Beach late Saturday afternoon.

Both were rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The Concord woman remains in critical condition, according to Hubbard.

Tomany's family told WBZ-TV they are asking for privacy at this time.

She was an elementary school teacher in Thompson, Conn. for 25 years.

Tomany retired in June of 2011.

"She was a fantastic teacher and wonderful person," Superintendent Michael Jolin told WBZ.
