Woman Sentenced In Stoughton Crash That Killed A Pregnant Woman

DEDHAM (CBS) -- A Sharon woman was sentenced to five years in prison for a July 2013 car crash in Stoughton which killed a pregnant woman who was walking with her 11-year-old son.

Karen Blau, 47, apologized at her sentencing hearing Friday morning at Norfolk Superior Court saying she was looking for her heroin addicted daughter that day.

Blau was found guilty of motor vehicle manslaughter while intoxicated and reckless endangerment of a child.

Pregnant mother Joanne White was walking on the sidewalk on Lincoln Street in Stoughton with her 11-year-old son when she was hit by Blau's car.

"One of her last acts was calling out to her son to run to safety. He was not injured, but she did not survive," Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey said in a public statement.

White's parents held pictures of their daughter in the courtroom during the sentencing.

Prosecutors requested a 10 to 12 year prison sentence. Blau received a five-year sentence with one year served, along with eight  years of probation.
