Woman Attacked On Esplanade In Boston Early Saturday Morning

BOSTON (CBS) – Police are searching for a man who attacked a woman on the Esplanade in Boston early Saturday morning.

The 25-year-old victim was walking on the lagoon area of the Esplanade around 2:50 a.m. when a man approached and pushed her to the ground, State Police said.

Several passers-by ran to help, and the alleged attacker took off running.

He is described as white or Hispanic, standing about 5'7" to 5'8", and bald.

The victim was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with minor injuries.

State Police noted that the attacker's description is different from that of the suspect in a series of unsolved attacks on the Esplanade and in South Boston in 2006, 2007, and 2009.

That suspect was described as black with a medium to large build, and 5-foot-8- to 5-foot-10 in height.

Ranger patrols have been increased on the Esplanade.

Authorities remind people walking in any outdoor space late at night to be aware of their surroundings, stay with others if possible, stay in well lit areas, and call 911 on a cell phone to be immediately connected to police.
