Will Enhanced Gun Laws Curb Mass Shootings?
Will tighter gun laws curb mass shooters? My view is that the commonly offered culprits in multiple shootings, guns and mental illness, are red herrings. I believe that the root of the issue lies in a shift in our core values. We have become a culture that values fame, even infamy, over honor. The fate most feared by young people today is that they become "nobody," and with the squeeze of a trigger any coward can become "somebody." Until we get back to a place where both shame and honor matter, the mass killings will continue.
