Wet Saturday, Sunny Sunday, Nice Columbus Day
Crisp air, cool days, chilly nights…classic Autumn weather. We'll get a bit of it all during this quintessential New England fall weekend. Today features beautiful sunshine and a pleasant southwest breeze that will boost our temperatures into the mid 60s. Expect some late day clouds to stream in and filter the sun a bit late in the day. Tonight, areas of rain develop after midnight from south to north as a wave of low pressure along a stationary boundary to our south approaches the region.
So it won't be a pretty start to our weekend. Rain will fall steadily and heavily at times tomorrow morning. I do think there will be a sharp cutoff on the north side of the storm…little if any rain should make it north of the MA/NH border. The rain will taper to showers from northwest to southeast during the afternoon tomorrow, lingering longest (probably until early evening) on Cape Cod. Rainfall totals should generally be around 0.25-0.5" for many, but higher amounts either side of 1" from the South Shore to Cape Cod are possible.
After that, a big ridge of high pressure builds in providing us with sunshine on Sunday! Columbus Day looks fantastic too. And although there's a slight risk of an isolated shower, I think most of us won't see it.
So get out and enjoy all the fun fall festivities! Pick those apples and pumpkins, eat some fried dough, bundle up in a sweater, sip some cider & while you're at it…send us your foliage pictures, right from your phone using the CBS Boston Weather App, now available for Android users.
Have a wonderful weekend - see you again Monday morning!
