19-Year-Old Woman Killed In West Boylston Hit-And-Run Identified

WEST BOYLSTON (CBS) -- The 19-year-old woman who was hit and killed on Interstate-190 Sunday has been identified as Smarlyn Pamela Reyes of Leominster.

State Police said Reyes was hit by two cars after she exited her own vehicle in the median and walked back to the road around 2:20 a.m.

The first car did not stop and state police are still searching for the driver. The second, a Mazda driven by a 40-year-old Leominster man, did stay at the scene. No charges have been filed against him at this time.

"It's just tragic she didn't deserve that at all," said Rosemairi Hidalgo, who has known Reyes since elementary school.

The two celebrated Smarlyn's 19th birthday together.

"I still can't. A part of me has left because our bond was just so amazing," she added.

The two grew up in the same building in Worcester and were like sisters.

"She was amazing. Honestly, she was the best little sister ever," she said.

Police say Smarlyn lost control of her car on Route 190 in West Boylston. The car flipped and landed in the median and police say somehow she was able to climb out of the car and up 20 feet.

"She was trying to live. She got out of the car. She is so strong. She knew if she stayed where she was she wasn't going to be seen and no one was going to hear her," Hidalgo said.

What upsets Hidalgo the most is how someone could have hit Smarlyn and left her there.

"That is what breaks my heart because she was still trying to live," she added.

The two girls celebrated everything together, graduations, first jobs.

"The day we were just talking about stuff we've been through and how our future was going to be. There were so many things she wanted to do," she said.

Now Hidalgo is left to cherish the memories and pictures. She hopes whoever did this comes forward.

Investigators are asking anyone with information or anyone who witnessed the crash to call State Police at 508-829-4431.
