Wedding Guests Sue Groom After Drone Hits Them On Dance Floor
WINDHAM, NH (CBS) - A groom and his wedding venue are being sued by two guests for an incident that gives a new meaning to the term "wedding crasher."
A lawsuit filed in Rockingham Superior Court claims a drone was flying over a group of guests during a wedding reception at the Searles Castle in Windham, NH. The wedding was in August.
According to the lawsuit, the groom, Barry Billcliff, was controlling the drone when it crashed into two women. The suit claims the drone hit one woman, Kelly Eaton, in the face, fracturing her nose and causing a concussion.
The suit claims the drone hit another woman, Kneena Ellis, in the head, leaving her with a concussion and a laceration that required more than 20 stitches.
Billcliff and Searles Castle are both being sued for negligence.
Scott C. Robb II, Vice President of Searles Castle Event Management, claims he told Billcliff he could not use the drone hours before the wedding.
"I don't know how I could have prevented it," said Robb. "I thought by telling him it was illegal, 'you can't do this here.' He put it away. End of story. What else could be done?"
Billcliff declined an on-camera interview, but told WBZ he was not controlling the drone. He claims he was standing in the middle of the dance floor at the time.
