Weapon Found In Woods Near Brockton School

BROCKTON (CBS) – A Brockton school was ordered to shelter in place on Monday when a person was seen placing a weapon in woods near the school.

A Brockton schools spokesman said a school employee was working at the Gilmore Early Childhood Center when they noticed a person drive onto the property and place a weapon in the woods not far from the school.

Brockton police were notified of the incident, and the school was put into shelter in place mode while officers located the weapon. Children are kept inside the building during shelter in place mode.

Recess was cancelled while the incident unfolded. No one was injured.

The Brockton schools spokesman said the district is proud of the response of staff who alerted police, adding that "safety is our No. 1 priority."
