WBZ-TV's Dan Roche Receives Jernegan Award From BoSox Club

BOSTON (CBS) -- There's no denying that WBZ-TV's Dan Roche owns a very special place in his heart for the Boston Red Sox.

On Tuesday, he received a special award because of it.

Roche received The Jernegan Award from The BoSox Club at the organization's annual meeting. The BoSox Club was formed back in the winter of 1966-67 to help boost the team's popularity, and is recognized today as the official booster club of the team.

The Jernegan Award is named in honor of the late Brad Jernegan, a charter member and President of the BoSox Club in 1969 and 1970. The Award, whose winner is determined by a vote of the Board of Directors, recognizes special and continuing contributions to the BoSox Club.

Past winners include Johnny Pesky (2010), Dominic DiMaggio (2007) and Lou Gorman (1994), just to name a few.

The winner was not announced ahead of time, so Roche was a little surprised at the luncheon on Tuesday.

"This is quite an honor and quite a surprise. For the first time in my life, I'm speechless," joked Roche, adding that being part of the BoSox Club has been a blast.
