Waltham After-School Employee Charged With Raping Child
WALTHAM (CBS) – An after-school program employee was arrested Thursday and charged with raping a child.
The Norfolk County District Attorney's Office said that the suspect, 28-year-old John Quinn Jr., knows the victim, but not through his employment in Waltham.
Despite that, parents picking their children up at Plympton Elementary School Thursday night were disturbed to learn of the allegations.
"I just couldn't believe it. That's all, I just couldn't believe it," Aleksandra Maguire said. "It doesn't make no sense."
Quinn is an employee with a company contracted to run an after-school program. He was arrested for sexual assault allegations out of Foxboro.
"He would be one of the guys that greet you when you come, you know, pick up your kids and he was really nice," Maguire said.
The arrest comes after an investigation by Foxboro Police. According to the District Attorney, the 28 year old pleaded not guilty Thursday to six counts of aggravated rape of a child, and six counts of rape of a child with force.
A police report says the alleged incidents happened between June 1 and September 1, and most recently on Monday in the basement of a home in Foxboro.
The Waltham School District isn't commenting, but sent a letter home to parents saying: "These charges are very concerning. We will be updating the community as soon as we have more information."
Quinn works for the Champions Program run by KinderCare. The company has placed him on administrative leave and says, "We take all concerns about our teachers and staff seriously and follow a very specific protocol anytime a concern is raised."
Quinn will be back in court for a pretrial hearing on November 9th.
Waltham school officials and the Waltham police department will be having an informational meeting for parents on Monday night, to update them on the investigation.
